Mere weeks ago, we published a review of the upcoming Play’n GO title Starblast. Later on, it became clear that NetEnt accused Playn’ GO of releasing a blatant copy of Starburst and threatened to take things to court.
To avoid legal hurdles, Play’n GO changed the design and released the controversial game under the name Crystal Sun. If you wonder what this story has in common with the Perfect Gems release, keep reading.

Perfect Gems - Slot Review
The title is playable across all devices and accepts bets in the range 0.20 – £100 per spin. Design-wise, the Perfect Gems bears a striking resemblance to BTG’s smash hit Bonanza. The slot seems to be Play’n GO’s answer to the Megaways craze, but instead of Megaways, Play’n GO calls them Payways.
The Perfect Gems is a 6-reeler with a horizontal reel and 21, 609 payways. As far as the symbols go, you will see A to 10 royals on the low end, and better paying gems in different colours with the blue ones being the highest paying. The wild performs its standard symbol replacement duties. It appears on the top horizontal reel only.
If you have ever played a Megaways slot, you will not help but notice the similarities between the Megaways titles and the Perfect Gems. The Play’n GO team unlocked its imagination to mask these similarities behind a seemingly complicated game engine.
In Perfect Gems, reels 1 and 6 contain 3 symbols each. The middle reels expand to 4 symbols per reel. When a symbol landed on the horizontal line is identical to a symbol on the reel below, the symbol is split in two.
The Play’n GO title also comes with a Win Multiplier founded at the top left corner. Each win cascade increases the multiplier by 1. The symbols forming the winning combination are removed and replaced by new ones. The multiplier is reset to 1 when the symbols on the reels fail to form a winning combination.

Free Spins
Land 3, 4, 5 or 6 scatters and get 9, 15, 21, or 27 free spins, respectively. During the free spins, the regular scatter is replaced by a Spin scatter. Every time you land a spin scatter, you earn 2 extra free spins. If you have a losing free spin, the win multiplier will not reset itself.
Bottom line
Design-wise, the Perfect Gems is a nice-looking slot. However, we cannot turn a blind eye to the remarkable resemblance to Bonanza. BTG will not be amused by the upcoming release for sure.
Other than that, the Perfect Gems is a high variance title with a solid win potential. We are curious whether it will occupy the TOP Games sections of the largest Play’n GO casinos.
The Perfect Gems is expected to launch on May 30, 2019.
