Gambling Regulator in Thailand
Although gambling is a lot of fun, it needs to be regulated. The main law governing casinos in Thailand is the Gambling Act of 1935. This act specifies all legal gambling activities in the country.
The government allows players to participate in the national lottery. Other than that, the law also allows horse race betting. For one of the most toured destinations in Thailand, casinos are illegal.
Anyone found breaking the law has to pay penalties. Also, there are imprisonment terms that gamblers may serve. In fact, a Thai iGaming icon was sentenced to 54 years in jail for running illegal gambling activities in the country.
As harsh as this sounds, such laws are protective of players. The Thailand Government is at the forefront to minimize gambling. The Ministry of Digital Economy and Society is tasked with cracking down on all illegal gambling dens in the country and seeing to it that there are no illegal gaming activities in the country.
Players can participate in state lotteries without having qualms about illegality. The lotteries can quench the sheer urge to gamble. Also, you might be lucky and go home with a decent win.
It is common for many players to visit foreign gambling sites. However, the local ministry monitors such sites. The authorities can also restrict Thai players from gambling on offshore casinos, although this has not been actualized.
All in all, there is hope that the Thai government will allow gambling. As to when or how, we can’t tell that for sure. However, the Thai National Assembly is now open to introducing legal casinos. Such a move would be the first step towards legalizing online gambling in the country.
