Four Swedish Casinos Face Tough Penalties; Snabbare and ComeOn Pay the Largest Fines
Posted at: 22 August 2019
On Thursday, August 22, the Swedish gambling regulator Spelinspektionen announced that it imposed warnings as well as financial penalties to four casino operators.
Snabbare was hit with the largest penalty amounting to SEK9m. The Cherry AB subsidiary ComeOn was slapped with SEK6m. Hajper and Legolas were penalized SEK5.4m and SEK100k, respectively. All four operators violated the prohibition for taking bets on sports events with underage athletes involved.
This is the second “round” of casinos found guilty on offering bets on sports events with underage players. In July, the Gaming Innovation Group was levied a SEK3.5m and namely that fine was the dealbreaker that made the company cease its Swedish sports betting operations.
According to GiG representatives, the Swedish regulation has some serious clarity issues. Consequently, the organisation representing the Swedish online licensees requested a meeting with Spelinspektionen representatives. The meeting is scheduled to take place on September 17, and it is aimed at clarifying Spelinspektionen’s interpretation of regulations.
