In 2019, Dutch lawmakers announced that they were going to open the market for international casino operators and allow them to apply for a local license.
The Netherlands Gambling Authority Kansspelautoriteit is in charge of monitoring all gambling activities taking place on the territory of the country. Likewise, it is in charge of issuing licenses to international operators and overseeing their activity.
Dutch people love gambling and currently, many overseas operators expressed keen interest in obtaining a Dutch license. However, acquiring a local license might be impossible for some of them.
Netherlands authorities have launched a crackdown on unlicensed operators that provide their services in the country. Technically, a great number of international operators are accessible from the Netherlands. They provide players with convenient payment options like iDEAL, the customer support speaks Dutch language. That being said, they are not providing these services legally. Consequently, the KSA imposes hefty fines on violators and shuts down serial troublemakers.
The first licenses for international operators are expected to be awarded in 2020, but previous offenders will have to wait two years before being able to apply for a license. As for the operators that manage to get KSA’s nod, they will be allowed to operate under tough regulations.
